Name: Father Val Peter
The Boys Town leader is shown with the famous "He's not heavy, he's my brother" statue. At the time Boys Town's executive director, Peter is pictured with his arm around two youth with Boys Town buildings and boys and girls in the background. The unveiling was a tribute to Father Peter's leadership and dedication to an Omaha organization that has national visibility. Father Peter assumed his post in 1985, the fourth executive director of Girls and Boys Town, the original Father Flanagan's Boys' Home. In addition to the Omaha headquarters, which includes 70 homes, more than 500 youth, two schools and a vocation center, he oversaw a national expansion program with 18 sites in Research Hospital and a National Resource and Training Center, which indirectly assists 1.5 million youth each year. Father Peter has published 13 books and 167 scholarly articles. He serves on numerous charitable and civic boards. Back to Top
