No: 53 Date: 6/1/1993 Name: Jack Payne "The Voice of the College World Series" was in his 30th year in the CWS booth when he was honored. By the time the baritone voice left the booth in his involvement with the annual series actually went back 50 years. He covered the event from 1951 through 1963 as a reporter for WOW Radio and WOW-TV, where he was a sportscaster for years. He provided "color" on KFAB for Nebraska football games, symbolized by the player in the drawing holding Payne's leg, while an Omaha Mustang player holds the other. Payne was the Mustangs general manager at one time. The popular announcer also announced the state high school track meet for decades. Back to Top
