From 1969 to 1993, Shafton rarely missed a board meeting and was on hand to give advice to the club's board of directors. Former OPC President Mary McGrath said Shafton did wonders for the club and "is one of the most wonderful men I have ever met." In addition to his service to the Press Club, Shafton served the community. He helped found the Omaha Boys Club, was a Childrens Hospital board member and general counsel for the Nebraska Food Bank for Variety Clubs International. After retiring as a lawyer in 1994 at age 85, he became active in the Executive Service Corps. Back to Top
