Jan Stoney was president of U.S. West Communications Consumer Division when honored for her community service and business success. Two years later, she would retire from U.S. West for an unsuccessful race for the Senate. Her career in communications is depicted in the drawing as she talks on a tin can walkie-talkie, or telephone "can comm." On one can are shown stewed tomatoes. Also shown are old dial phones and modern phones. As a joke, a carrier pigeon joins the parade of communications tools. Back to Top
