Name: David Wallace
David Wallace had just retired after 16 years of directing the Omaha Press Club Show when he was honored as a Face. Bruce McMorris, son of World-Herald columnist Bob McMorris, captured the spirit of the night by playing a Scottish tune on bagpipes and led the group in a Wallace family favorite, "Lloyd George." The Press Club band performed past OPC Show tunes for the occasion. Highlights for Wallace during his years as show director were bringing in a dead ringer for then-President Jimmy Carter and surprising the audience with an on-stage appearance by Ann Landers. The caricature shows the Scottish immigrant wearing a formal evening kilt with a sporran (purse) hanging in front. His wife, Janet, is singing in the background. The couple often appeared together in the annual Press Club shows. Janet retired from the OPC show three years later, after 25 years of providing her beautiful singing voice. A few years after her retirement, the couple was called back on stage for an encore, to perform a medley of Golden Oldies from previous shows. David Wallace died in August 2004. Back to Top
