When artist Jim Horan created the caricature, the Iowa football coach had a mustache. But he couldn't attend the presentation at that time. By the time he showed up months later to claim his Face, he had shaved off his mustache, but, of course, the drawing still showed him with a mustache. So as a joke, all the roasters showed up with false mustaches. Shown wearing glasses (the Iowa "Hawk Eyes" - get it?) is the Iowa mascot. A player has a rose in his teeth for the Rose Bowl in which Fry's team played. And what Iowa painting would be complete without Grant Wood's American Gothic couple? Back to Top
