Name: Governor Bob Kerrey
Later to become a U.S. senator from Nebraska and presidential hopeful, Bob Kerrey was the popular governor of Nebraska when his face was unveiled. He entered the race for governor with no prior political experience and was elected as a Democrat in a heavily Republican state. He began his career as a pharmacist and later started a chain of restaurants and health clubs in the Midwest. The medals in the illustration recognize his heroism during three years as a U.S. Navy Seal in Vietnam. His recent memoir, "When I Was A Young Man," brought up the controversy surrounding decisions he made as a military leader. Kerrey was a guest star in several Omaha Press Club Shows. The year before his unveiling, the show made fun of his relationship with actress Debra Winger with the show's title, "A Governor and A Gentleman." Winger had starred in the movie, "An Officer and a Gentlemen." She's shown in the caricature sitting in a limousine. In 1992, the show "Kerrey's Away" was devoted to the then-senator. The "no ghosts" button refers to an incident when Governor Kerrey addressed the state's Legislature wearing a T-shirt from the movie "Ghostbusters." Today he is president of the New School University in New York City. Back to Top
