Name: State Senator John Savage
The late John Savage is known to long-time Omaha Press Club members as the club's founder. He also was an OPC past president and OPC executive director. At the time of the unveiling, he was a Nebraska state senator, which is why he is wearing a Roman senator's toga. He served 1971-1979. The camera in the Face drawing is a reminder of Savage's many years as an Omaha World-Herald photographer. The lamb in the Face drawing is a reminder of a Savage photo of a leaping lamb that won a national award and was published nationally. Shown in the drawing is an old street car that sat in the Savage's back yard and was site of OPC's yearly steak fry, before there was a club restaurant. Back to Top
