Name: State Senator Terry Carpenter
Known as "Terrible Terry," the honoree from Scottsbluff was one of the state's most colorful and controversial figures. In the Face drawing, Disneyland is instead called "Terrytown" and Carpenter's fellow state senators are seen as Disney characters such as Goofy, Mickey Mouse and Pluto. Some of Carpenter's controversial legislation is indicated in the drawing with a garish gambler's coat and vest and cards labeled "Field House Flush." At the dedication of Carpenter's Face were former State Senator John Savage, executive vice president of OPC at the time, OPC president Howard Silber and Omaha Mayor Ed Zorinsky. A flowery orator and champion of the rights of rural Nebraskans, he was always ready to take on and challenge the urban powers. He died in 1978. Back to Top
