Press Club members got double the fun when the husband and wife team were honored as Faces.. Long-time District 66 school board member Liz Karnes, and her husband, attorney and former U.S. Senator Dave Karnes, faced the Face and numerous sharp-witted friends. Westside High School is shown in the background as a castle, poking fun at the people who complained that the new school was too luxurious. Dr. Liz Karnes served on the District 66 board. The couple is running down a boardwalk, representing the different boards of businesses and community organizations on which they served. Many jokes were made about Liz's cooking skills, or lack of., and Dave's chronic tardiness. Dave said when he wants to hide Liz's gift, he puts it in the oven. Friend Richard Dooling said Liz was replacing her kitchen with vending machines. Dave was appointed to the U.S. Senate to replace the late Ed Zorinsky, but was defeated by Bob Kerrey in the final race. Dave also was the sixth U.S. senator to end up on the Press Club floor. Liz served on the Airport Authority board. She died in April 2003.  Back to Top
